Synopsis: Hillbilly buddies, Jesse and Clyde, amuse themselves with their alternative version of a childhood game.

CONKERS FOR THE BRAVE is a stop-motion animation created using puppets and hand made sets. The original idea and concept came from a Haiku from actor/director Tony Mardon, who asked Debbie if she would be interested in creating a short animation section for his feature film, The Witches of the Sands (TWOTS), based on this Haiku.

After various discussions relating to ideas and expectations, production began in February 2022. As with my previous stop-motions, the film was produced on a minimal budget, using found objects, and lots of old wood from broken fence panels! The hillbilly theme developed through spotting random behind-the-scenes images from TWOTS which I thought might tie the animation in a little with the main feature.

I already had lighting gels, ring lights, and the main tripods and bits and pieces I needed for filming, so the main cost for this production was on things like glue, polymer clay, paints/pens, and aluminium wire for the armatures.

All of the small bits and pieces that I bought here and there add up and I didn't really keep track of it all, but I doubt much more that £100 was spent on the main items required for this.

I was however, lucky enough to be bought a Dremel for Christmas just before starting this, so that was extremely useful!
