Synopsis: In a dystopian society where the only acceptable behaviour is unquestioning conformity, for those unable to adhere to this, there is a specialist rehabilitation centre. Here compliance is the only option. Here begins The Process.

THE PROCESS is a stop-motion animation created using puppets and hand made sets. The idea for ‘The Process’ was initially developed in late 2021 but was put on hold whilst Debbie’s second animation, ‘Conkers for the Brave’ (2022), was in production.

The concept originated after a work situation unveiled an unnerving realisation of the similarities between the dystopian autocratic societies depicted in films, and the treatment of employees in large organisations in the real world. The Process is a metaphorical representation of the ‘support and training’ given to ensure we all conform to the standardised ideas and rules; and ultimately, the consequences of non-compliance.

As with the previous couple of projects, I didn't really keep track of how much I spent, but the main costs were glue, foam board, polymer clay, aluminium wire, and LED bulbs, batteries and battery holders.

The sci-fi horror theme was definitely out of my comfort zone, so I ended up with my own wonky style, but ultimately I think the general idea comes across how I wanted.
