Synopsis: An unsuspecting girl is plunged into a world of confusion when she realises she has surrendered control to a vindictive voodooist. It soon becomes clear she will not survive unless she takes matters into her own hands.

THE RHYTHM is a short-film style music video based around the original song The Rhythm by Dai-X (Debbie Lane is the drummer and vocalist of Dai-X). The song was originally written for a Halloween gig, although was never developed into a full band version. Instead it was used as an intro track for the gig but became the main soundtrack for this short film.

The film was extremely low budget using existing equipment (iPad for filming, one light source, and existing Adobe software), a main set built around a garden tree, using logs, twigs, branches, conkers, and various candles, jars, bottles, and other props already owned. The 'voodoo lady' costume was made from an old oversized t-shirt found laying around in the garage, cut up and tied together!

The only money actually specifically spent on this project was buying the two drinks from the pub so we could shoot outside!

This short film was filmed in Rettendon, Essex, over two days in August 2019, using the bridle path notoriously famous for the Rettendon murders documented in the film Essex Boys. Being almost deserted and overgrown, it seemed the perfect place to film.

Pre-production planning was worked between Debbie Lane and Jes Hammond, with Jes Hammond also working as Director of Photography.
